Philosophy

“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but from the period of birth to the age of six, for that is the time when intelligence itself, her greatest implement, is being formed.”

Dr. Maria Montessori

Over 100 years ago Dr. Maria Montessori inspired the birth of a world wide educational movement.  This simple truth inspired Dr. Montessori’s pursuit of educational reform, teaching, and teacher training all based on the self-creating process of the child.  In 1907 Dr. Maria Montessori continued shaping her learning model by opening “A Children’s House for preschool children.

The Montessori Philosophy is based on years of analytical observation which is being confirmed repeatedly by scientific studies and experiments.  It has proved to be of universal applications having been used successfully with children of almost every nation and with children of all social and economic strata.

In the prepared environment the child is allowed an atmosphere of freedom within limits.  He achieves a discipline which originates within himself and he allows himself a large measure of self-determination which forms the basis of real discipline.

The teacher directs each child individually and guides him according to his individual requirements.  Each child works at his own pace, completing one stage of development before beginning the next.  Each child works from his own free choice, without competition, and is therefore freed from the danger of over strain and discouragement.

The Montessori Philosophy in action develops the whole personality of the child, his intellectual facilities and his powers of deliberation, initiative and independent choice with their emotional complements.  By living as a free member of a real social community, the child learns those fundamental social qualities which form the basis for good citizenship.
